If you know the famous BM duck egg char koay teow near Taman Jaya, just head on straight and you will see a Shell Petrol Station on your left, and not far from there the Bukit Mertajam Baptist Church on your right.
Slow down and you will notice a bridge in front. Do not go onto the bridge, instead, turn right into a very small path just next to the bridge. Be careful of this junction.
Go along this path and you will see the railway tracks on your left (under the bridge) and go along this narrow road and you will see this sign on your right:

Welcome to the online weblog of the Society For Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (in short, SPCA) Seberang Perai. This site is to create awareness on responsible pets ownership as well as to report on the news and latest activities of the society.

The SPCA Seberang Perai operates an animal shelter which is located in Bukit Mertajam in mainland Penang. The animal shelter houses many dogs and cats. Their well being is being taken care of by the society.

Even as strays or abandoned pets, they deserve to be treated kindly by us humans.

The animal shelter is open for visitation every Sunday from 3:30pm to 6:30pm

The gates are open to anybody who wish to help out in the shelter. If you find any sick or injured animals, please do not hesitate to send them in to the shelter. The animal shelter has 3 policies:
- Non-kill policy, unless it is beyond medical assistance and the animal is suffering, or the animal cannot be handled by SPCA staff. Decision will be made by a veterinian.
- No adoption fees is charged. Instead, a donation is requested.
- Surrender fees is charged according to the type of animal, and its age.

The SPCA Seberang Perai organizes several activities which help to create awareness towards responsible pet ownership as well as to raise funds for the operation of the animal shelter.

Some of them include fund raising, public talks, children education camp, spaying program, adoption program, hormone in food projects for stray cats,
